Smug Wendy from Wendy's Twitter Year: 2017
Event(s): Awesomecon 2017 | Mississippi Comic Con 2017 Details: When the Smug Wendy meme exploded I could have literally cared less, but so many people were begging me to cosplay her, I finally caved. Two different friends sent me parts to the costume to light a fire under my butt. I went on a search mission for the perfect fabric, which was harder than I expected. The stripes were either too thick or too thin, too dark or too teal... I had almost given up when I spotted an almost perfect blue and white striped knit out of the corner of my eye. There was JUST ENOUGH left on the bolt to make this costume, I got very lucky. The fact that the fabric had stretch made it even more perfect because then I wouldn't have to worry about seam-lines or darts ruining the flow of the stripes. The dress itself is a pretty basic pattern that I drew up a while back for making tight fitted spandex dresses. I altered it a bit so that the bottom would flare. Since the fabric was kind of opaque, there's also a slip built in out of white knit; it attaches at the sleeve and neck holes but falls free at the sides. The top half of the sleeves have a layer of stiff satin on the inside to help them keep shape since the knit would have fallen differently on its own. The bottom half of the sleeves is literally a pair of socks that I cut up and sewed in. The bottom of the dress is hemmed with horsehair braid to help it have some shape and topped with a simple white trim that I already had on hand for when I used to make Harley Quinn costumes in bulk. The lace was also used on the sleeves and apron. The apron itself is made from a white canvas material and has pockets the perfect size for my cell phone, haha. (I love it when I can sneak a phone pocket into a costume) |
