Event(s): Awesomecon 2017 | Mississippi Comic Con 2017 Details: When this meme started going around, I thought it was so dumb. But my fans were very adamant about me cosplaying it until I finally caved and agreed. Little did I know I would absolutely love it once I finally wore it to a convention! The costume was a pretty quick project! The hardest part was choosing the materials, honestly. I had to make sure I found actual striped socks and not nylons, so I could cut them up. And finding the right color and width blue striped fabric was a pain. Luckily, I had some white canvas for the apron and the perfect shoes already! So everyone who had been begging me to make it could watch, I streamed the whole process on Twitch overnight. I started by slightly altering my standard stretch dress pattern to flare at the bottom and Googling how to make the sleeves I wanted. The dress is fully lined with a white knit to keep it from being see-through and has horsehair braid in the bottom hem to help with the poof.. Since I didn't want to add a zipper, I made sure the collar sits open and clasps shut with a pin-back button which was originally a googly eye that I painted, haha. The apron is pretty simple, just a double layered rectangle with pockets for my phone and business cards! I love it when I remember to add in pockets. It has the same lace as the dress, which was just a trim I had bought years before for Harley Quinn cuffs. It just ties in the back! I considered making a bow for it, but decided not to last minute. The sleeves on the dress are a second pair of socks! I cut off the foot, cut them down the center, and then sewed them onto the sleeve and sewed it all down the middle with the side-seam of the dress. The bottom of the sleeve is just the top of the sock, no hemming required! |
