Sailor Jupiter from Sailor MoonYear: 2010
Event(s): Senior Project Details: There are only two photos of this costume in existence. I mean, I guess it’s better than none at all, but still, haha. Because I’m a huge loser, I did my senior project on (surprise!) anime! For my project portion, I decided to make a costume to give my presentation in. And that brings us here, to the construction notes! One of my teachers, who I am still close with today, taught me most of what I know about cosplay. When it came time for this part of the project, I chose her to be my mentor and to show me the ways of the sailor fuku. I chose to do Jupiter because I could use my real hair, but don’t let that fool you, Mercury is my favorite. This was another costume that warranted a trip all the way out to Hobby Lobby. (Luckily, they were building one near my grandma’s house which opened not too long after this) All of the fabric is that super cheap, can’t get it wet, snags easily satin. The body part is a workout shirt I cut the sleeves and trimmed the collar off of. I think my favorite “Megan WHY” things about this costume would have to be the fact that I used translucent ribbon for the details and also that the bows were made sturdy with, you guessed it, printer paper. The circle skirt Jaclyn helped me make became my circle skirt pattern for years, it was the only piece of that costume that I held onto. Fun fact: a few days after I wore this to school for my project, one of my teachers and another teacher passed me sitting in the hall eating breakfast. I guess he thought I was out of earshot because he sure said some dirty things about what I had been wearing… |
