Sabrina Spellman from Sabrina the Teenage Witch: The Magic WithinYear: 2017
Event(s): N/A Details: For Halloween 2017, I knew I finally wanted to do a cute Halloween shoot!! I'd never done one before, and I figured it was finally time to get a little spooky! Although, Sabrina is not spooky at all, haha. I knew I wanted to do a witch outfit Sabrina, but I was having a hard time finding any images online. I've been reading Sabrina comics since I was in the womb, and I knew her in witch outfits existed, but eventually I stopped doing Google searches and just started flipping through graphic novels. I eventually stumbled across a cute outfit in the Sabrina manga, but the version I was looking in was gray-scale, and, instead of going dig through my comic boxes, I decided to just buy the same issue on Comixology. Because I'm smart, I bought several Sabrina comics before actually ordering the correct one, and then I finally had some color reference! The construction of the costume was fairly easy, but I somehow kept breaking sewing machine needles and screaming. The top and bottoms were made from left-over fabric from previous projects and I ordered the hat and two pairs of socks online. One pair of socks got the glove treatment by cutting off the foot, hemming it, and then cutting a thumb hole and sealing it with clear nail polish. I made the pattern for the top myself and tried out a shorts pattern I found at Walmart for the bottoms--it made a much shorter pair of shorts than I expected, haha. There are three zipper throughout the costume, but none of them are actually functional; everything just slips on! I also made the broom! It's huge and barely fit in my car to drive to the shoot, but was well worth the trouble. I used what I called, "my fire poking stick" as the stick, wrapped the end in surgical tape until there was a knob, and placed the straw on top, locking it down with rubber bands and then finally covering it with a bow. |
