Catahoula from VS: Vamps vs WolvesYear: 2017
Event(s): New York Comic Con 2017 | MegaCon 2018 Details: Asking Scott Blair Art to put me in his comic was an ongoing joke until one day, it actually happened. He created a character with an anime girl aesthetic named "Catahoula," like the state dog of Louisiana. She was so cute and modeled after me that I couldn't not cosplay her!! The original design had her in a plain black tube dress with cat ears, but while looking at other dresses for inspiration on materials, I saw a dress with a long silver zipper and asked if I could incorporate that into the costume as well. Scott said yes, and then I ran to the fabric store to get to work! I made the dress using a spandex dress pattern I made way back when I originally made Daphne. I modded it to be strapless and have cute cat ears. Even though you can't see the inside, I lined it with a soft pink spandex to keep the dress from having any showing stitches and also because it's cute, haha. The cat ears have a thick interfacing sewn inside and are tacked to the lining fabric to keep them from pushing the black fabric outward. The dress also has some clear straps which I hand sewed on, to keep the ears standing straight up and also, of course, to keep it from potentially falling down. For the bat ears, I quickly made a pattern based off my Lilith headdress and cut it out of two sheets of craft foam. I then carefully used a dremel to smooth the edges and attached the two pieces together. After that, I glued each ear onto a skinny headband and began to coat them in wood glue! Once the glue had dried, I painted and distressed them and then they were ready to go! Because I used craft foam, they are super lightweight and stay up with no issues! All the other parts of the costume were either already in my closet or purchased online. My favorite part of this outfit is how much it reminds me of teenage me with arm warmers, a choker, and a sideways, studded belt, hahaha. |
